Electric Ford Mustang Lithium Has Actual Beast Mode

Electric Ford Mustang Lithium Has Actual Beast Mode

We know that somewhere in the not too distant future (somewhere in time and spaaaaace), Ford is going to make an all-electric Mustang. Just gonna happen. Thanks to Ford and Webasto, we have some idea of what that battery-operated pony car might be able to do today. And as the Ford Mustang Lithium indicates, it’s pretty beastly.

Debuting at SEMA 2019, the Mustang Lithium fastback prototype delivers more than 900 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. Oh, and since it uses a Phi-Power dual-core electric motor with dual power inverters powered by high-performance 800-volt Webasto battery system with EVDrive Technology, you get all that power instantly and with less weight than a conventional battery system.

But the more some things change, the more others stay the same. Though it lacks a whopper engine, the Mustang Lithium has a manual transmission — specifically, a Calimer Getrag MT82 six-speed capable of handling the four-digit torque output. To ensure optimal performance, the Mustang Lithium also gets must-haves like Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires wrapped around Forgeline wheels, a Super 8.8 Torsen differential, Brembo six-piston front brakes borrowed from the Shelby GT350R, and the Ford Performance Track Handling Pack.

Perhaps the most exciting part? Its drive modes, which include Valet, Sport, Track, and — wait for it — Beast. Yeah, it has a Beast Mode. Doesn’t that just have the nicest little ring to it.

Ford didn’t detail range or anything like that because, let’s face it, folks would probably stop dead at 1,000 lb-ft of torque and plunk down their money. We’re likely a ways off from Ford making a production-ready Mustang EV, but if the end result is anything like this beast when time comes to pass, we’ll be in for a treat.
