Recaro’s History with Ford Dates Back To The 1979 Mustang Pace Car
The right seats can make or break a car. As far as Mustangs go, factory seats have left a bit to be desired. As factory seats go, in order to keep costs down, most tend to have a simple design with basic materials. Therefore, under spirited driving, the factory seats weren't the greatest at holding the driver or passenger in place. So, when the performance of the Ford Mustang continued to evolve, it also needed more performance oriented seats.
For 1979, when the Mustang was chosen as the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car, and it needed the seats to match the car's performance. Ford and Recaro teamed up on this specialty Mustang, which started a relationship that continues today, 40 years later. Beginning with the Pace Car, SVO, 2000 Cobra R, to even the current 2019 Raptor; Recaro is still the performance seat supplier for Ford's fastest vehicles.
