2018 Ford Mustang GT PP1 vs 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320: Drag-Strip Tested

2018 Ford Mustang GT PP1 vs 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320: Drag-Strip Tested

During our recent visit to Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wis., we had two very special vehicles. One of them was new for 2019 — the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 — and the other was the 2018 Ford Mustang GT with Performance Package 1.

The Challenger Scat Pack 1320 (named for the 1,320 feet in a quarter-mile) is a naturally aspirated 485-horsepower car, and perhaps could be considered the grandson of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. It has Demon shocks, a transbrake system and drag radial tires from the factory. Dodge says it’ll do 11.7 seconds in the quarter-mile at 115 mph.

As for the 2018 Mustang, we’ve had some pretty good luck with this car in the past — 11.9 seconds. We brought that exact car back to see if you really need to get a single-seater, drag special limited-edition Challenger to go 11 seconds in a quarter-mile.
