1968 Mercury Cougar XR7-G Dan Gurney Special
The Mercury Cougar, sister car of the Ford Mustang, was introduced in 1967 as an upscale version of Ford's titular pony car. With a host of luxury features unavailable in the Ford Mustang, and performance options to boot, the Cougar offered consumers all the go with plenty of comfort as well. An assortment of packages were available drawing on the success of Ford's racing program and racing personalities such as Dan Gurney were mobilized in an effort to generate buzz for the brand. And yes, Dan Gurney campaigned in the 1967 SCCA Trans-Am season with a Bud Moore-prepped Mercury Cougar! Thus led to the creation of the 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7-G or Dan Gurney Special.
