Jim Smith’s 1949 Ford F-1 Pickup Truck
Jim Smith’s 1949 Ford F-1 pickup truck may look ragged, but it has a great personality.
″(My truck) took 71 years to get this way. I don’t want to mess it up,” Smith jokes as he looks at the vintage Ford. He is a former Ford Master Technician of over 20 years.
Smith calls his project truck a “rust-o-mod” or old-school truck, with modern upgrades like a high-performance V-8 engine and upfront power disc brakes — although a round of .50-caliber ammunition hanging from the inside of the roof may fall into a different category.
The Ford has a patchwork paint job that has been called black and “tetanus shot brown,” in reference to rust and clear-coated rust on the hood.
“The patina gives it character,” Smith stated. He said he gets a lot of thumbs ups and honks from passing big trucks. His wife, Kristine, calls the truck “crazy” but “fun.”
Smith plans to add more touches but keep the old-school hot rod persona.
