15 Facts About The Ford Interceptor From Mad Max

Check out these facts behind the Ford car dubbed the “Interceptor” from the cult film series.

Over forty years have passed since the Australian cult film Mad Max released in 1979. The cast included Mel Gibson in his career breakout role as Maximillian Rockatansky, and featured a modified Australian muscle car, the iconic Ford Falcon XB dubbed the “Interceptor” (along with several other wild vehicles unrecognizable in their modified forms).

The original Mad Max movie was the first Australian film production shot in anamorphic widescreen, a process that allows a wide widescreen image to be horizontally compressed, capturing as much detail as possible. Most of the filming for Mad Max took place in and around Melbourne and lasted only six weeks.

While Mel Gibson went on to become a movie superstar, the V8 Interceptor also gained notoriety as one of the movie industry’s most famous vehicles both in Australia and in the U.S.
