2018 Ford Mustang GT Races Lamborghini Gallardo

When most people lay eyes on a Lamborghini, they immediately think of speed, as well as style. After all, Lambos have historically been big time performers, packing large displacement engines coupled with light weight and supreme style. But the real truth is, even a Lamborghini built just a few years ago, like this Gallardo, isn’t terribly fast by today’s lofty standards. And this roll race against an S550 Ford Mustang is proof of that.

The Gallardo is a first-gen example, and reportedly produces around 440 horsepower at the wheels, which is pretty much precisely what the tuned S550 Ford Mustang it’s facing pumps out. The Lambo has less torque, however, thanks to its high-revving V10, versus the Mustang’s 5.0L Coyote V8.

As far as transmissions go, the Gallardo is packing an E-gear, which is a six-speed electro-hydraulically actuated single-clutch automated manual transmission. On the other side, the Mustang is running Ford’s excellent 10R80 10 speed automatic.

In terms of weight, the Gallardo tips the scales at around 3,500 pounds, which is a bit less than the Mustang at around 3,700 pounds. On paper, it might seem like the Lambo has a distinct advantage, but that’s why we don’t race on paper.
