Marketing is a fascinating aspect of business. There have been plenty of failures, but it's also given us epic wins, like the partnership between Shelby American and the Hertz Corporation. Back in late 1965, General Manager of Shelby American, Peyton Cramer, went to Hertz with a crazy but brilliant marketing idea: to supply Shelby rental cars to the general public. "The 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H became a legend from the moment it was introduced”, says Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO at Shelby American Inc., Joe Conway. We would like to share a part of this history with one lucky winner!
Shelby GT350H Mustangs would enter Hertz's rental fleet under what would be called the "Rent-a-Racer" program.
The Hertz issued GT350H Mustangs were just like the standard GT350’s on the lot, including K-code Cobra 289 high-performance V-8 engines that put out 306 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. They could blast from 0-60 in a quick (for 1966) 6.6 seconds and could run the quarter mile in just over 15 seconds.
This car shows the iconic black with gold stripes livery, has an impeccable background in the SAAC directory and was featured in the August 1993 Mustang Monthly magazine. It is a key piece of Shelby Mustang history.
