The Capri – later renamed as the Mercury Capri – was a nameplate used by the Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford Motor Company between 1970 and 1994 across three generations in North America.
It was originally a captive import produced in Europe by the local Ford division and sold simply as the Capri without any other branding. The sport compact car went on to become a U.S.-produced pony car for the second generation (1979-1986) based on the then-current Ford Mustang, and then its third and final generation became the 1991-1994 Mercury Capri roadster manufactured by Ford Australia and sold as Ford Capri outside of North America …
